CPV Renewable Energy Company has executed a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for 165 MW from the Cimarron wind energy project in Gray County, Kansas. The Cimarron wind energy project will complete permitting in the year 2010 and local approvals for this project has already been received.
The wind farm to be constructed and operated by CPV Renewable Energy Company is expected to commence its power generation in the year 2011. CVP Cimarron is one among the other renewable energy projects selected from more than 60 responses to a TVA request for proposals issued in December 2009.
Sean Finnerty, CPV Sr. Vice President, remarked that CPV Renewable Energy Company is working toward energizing America’s future. Both CPV and TVA together have partnered again for the growth of renewable and clean energy resources for a sustainable energy future. Finnerty commended TVA’s selection of environmentally clean sources of electricity to fulfill its power generation requirements.
During the last several months more than 500 MW of long-term power purchase agreements have been executed by CPV Renewable Energy Company. A 200 MW power purchase agreement from CPV’s Ashley wind farm in North Dakota was announced by CPV and TVA in October. A 152 MW power purchase agreement from CPV’s Keenan wind farm in Oklahoma was agreed between CPV and Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company in September. CPV Renewable Energy Company also has wind farms that are scheduled for commercial operation in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
CPV Renewable Energy Company, a subsidiary unit of Competitive Power Ventures, is promoting a broad portfolio of wind and photovoltaic power generation throughout North America. CPV is rapidly establishing itself to become a leader in the development of renewable energy under the guidance provided by a blue chip management team and financial support from the investment fund Warburg Pincus.
