Solyndra announced that its authorized reseller, Umwelt-Sonne-Energie GmbH, has completed the largest collective Solyndra project to date. Solyndra manufactures cylindrical photovoltaic systems for applications in commercial rooftops. Solyndra’s cylindrical photovoltaic systems with a total generation capacity of 1.9 MWp were installed on the rooftops of 10 sites in Belgium that is owned by an international food retailer.
Chris Gronet, Solyndra CEO and founder, said that this project demonstrates how distributed power generation can be successful in an urban setting. He commented that it is also a good example to show how Solyndra’s PV systems can be used to generate substantial power from underutilized commercial rooftops. Chris Gronet said that the project designed and delivered by Umwelt-Sonne-Energie is capable of highest energy production over the system’s lifetime.
The cylindrical, thin film PV systems from Solyndra are designed in such a way to produce more electricity from low-slope commercial rooftops. These PV systems also cost less to install when compared to established flat plate PV technologies. The Belgium project was completed in two months and involved 1,928 kWp of installation in ten cities on ten sites.
Arnold Berens, USE Projects CEO, said that the best solution for this challenging project was Solyndra PV systems and the company’s trained staff had installed the systems easily. Arnold Berens commented that the company was pleased to help the client meet its corporate citizenship goals while generating renewable and clean power.
