OG+E Energizes its Windspeed Transmission Line in Oklahoma State

Regulated electric utility OGE Energy Corp. (OG&E) has rejuvenated its new Windspeed transmission line between Oklahoma City and Woodward, thereby paving the way for the production of wind power in northwestern Oklahoma.

In 2008, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission had approved Windspeed. The 345-kW transmission line runs for 121 miles between Oklahoma City and Woodward. It connects the new extra-high-voltage substation of OG&E located close to Woodward with its already existing transmission grid. Moreover, the substation will be used as a transmission hub for renewable energy.

The CEO, President and Chairman of OG&E, Pete Delaney stated that the completion of the $200 million assignment within budget and on time is crucial for renewable energy development in the state of Oklahoma. According to him, the new line brings new life to the wind energy sector of Oklahoma by creating jobs, offering renewable energy to the customers of Oklahoma, increasing revenues generated from taxes in northwestern Oklahoma; and generating revenue for landowners.
