Darden Restaurants’ Building Receives LEED Gold Certification

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification for New Construction (NC) to a new headquarters building of Darden Restaurants in Orlando. The building has an office space of 469,000 sq. ft.

Some of the sustainability initiatives undertaken for this building include utilizing LEED standards in the design process of its restaurants; developing ‘Green Teams’ for all of its 1,800 restaurants, which helps implementing programs for reducing water and energy usage as well as reduce waste; and setting targets for reducing water and energy consumption for each of its restaurants by 15% by the year 2015.

As part of its efforts to supply chain sustainability, Darden Restaurants has become a part of the Sustainability Consortium that strives to enhance consumer product sustainability.
