Nordex to Install 134.4 MW Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Farm in South Africa

A major order will enable the wind turbine manufacturer Nordex to further expand its business in South Africa. The independent power producer CENNERGI has placed an order with Nordex for the delivery and turnkey installation of the 134.4 MW “Amakhala Emoyeni” wind farm. CENNERGI’s principal shareholders are the South African mining group EXXARO Resources and India’s Tata Power.

Saudi Aramco Selects Soitec’s CPV Technology for 1 MW Solar-Energy Pilot Plant

Partners Khaled Juffali Company (KJC), a Saudi Arabian investment company, and Soitec, a world leader in semiconductor materials for the electronics and energy industries, have announced that the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), a global petroleum and chemicals company owned by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has decided to use Soitec’s concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) technology for a 1-megawatt solar-energy pilot plant in Saudi Arabia’s northwestern Tabuk region.

EPSRC Supports UK-India Research on Smart Energy Grids and Energy Storage

The growing strength of joint UK-India research was highlighted today by the announcement of 12 new collaborations in the areas of Advanced Manufacturing and Smart Energy Grids and Energy Storage. The new projects will be supported by £8.3 million from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) through the Manufacturing and RCUK Energy Programme themes, with matched resources from India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST). There will be seven projects in Advanced Manufacturing and five in Smart Energy Grids and Energy Storage.

New Technology Produces Chlorine with Significantly Less Electricity

A new technology from Bayer and ThyssenKrupp that is now being launched commercially worldwide enables the production of chlorine with significantly less electricity. The process reduces the very large amount of energy required to obtain the important chemical by as much as 30 percent compared with conventional processes. Its widespread use would enable economically significant savings of energy.
