EPSRC Awards Funding for Studying Geological Safety of Storing Carbon Dioxide Underground

£3.27 million has been awarded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), as part of the Research Councils UK Energy programme, to four research projects to study the geological viability and safety of storing CO2 underground in depleted North Sea oil and gas fields or saline aquifers.

Plug Power Provides Hydrogen Fuel Cells for BMW Fleet of Trucks at Spartanburg Facility

Plug Power Inc. (Nasdaq:PLUG), a leader in providing clean, reliable energy solutions, today announced that BMW Manufacturing Co. recently expanded the use of Plug Power hydrogen fuel cells at its Spartanburg, South Carolina facility to power all material handling trucks and forklifts, bringing its clean energy fleet to 275 units. This makes it the largest such fleet in North America.

Empower Energies Completes Commissioning of Solar EV Charging Station in Ohio

Empower Energies announced the completion and commissioning of a new Solar Electric-Vehicle (EV) Charging Station at McCluskey Chevrolet at the King’s Automall in Cincinnati, Ohio. The eight-space installation has the capacity to charge about 3000 electric vehicles per year – from completely empty to full – directly from the sun.

PPA Approval Clears Way for Solar Power Plant in New Mexico

First Solar, Inc. and New Mexico State Land Commissioner Ray Powell announced today that First Solar, Inc. has been granted a power purchase agreement (PPA) from the New Mexico Public Regulatory Commission, clearing the way for First Solar to begin construction on the state's largest solar power plant to be located on State Trust Land in Luna County. The PPA will provide El Paso Electric Power with 50MW of solar energy for 25 years.

Portland General Electric Selects Abengoa for 440MW Combined Cycle Power Plant in Portland

Abengoa, a company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainable development in the energy and environment sectors, has been selected by U.S. power company, Portland General Electric (PGE) to develop a 440-megawatt (MW) combined cycle power plant to supply electrical energy to half the population of Portland, Oregon. The project is valued at USD 364 million.
