SunSi to Install Organic Rankine Cycle Systems at Qilin Iron & Steel Plant

SunSi Energies Inc. ("SunSi"), an international manufacturer, seller and distributor of energy products and solutions, today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to install up to four of its proprietary, modular Organic Rankine Cycle systems ("ORC units") at the Zibo Qilin Fushan Iron & Steel Company ("Qilin"). The definitive agreement finalizes the terms set forth in the Letter of Intent previously announced by the Company in late 2012. Qilin, a steel producing company that is located in the Shandong province of China, is the subsidiary of a $28 billion entity.

CEA and Veolia Environnement Enter Collaboration for Nuclear Facility Cleanup and Dismantling

Veolia Environnement and the CEA (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) have today signed a general collaboration agreement for nuclear facility cleanup and dismantling, along with a specific agreement concerning two facilities - one at the CEA centre in Marcoule, and the other at the CEA centre in Cadarache.

Perennial Biofuel Crops Reduce Escape of Nitrogen into the Environment

Perennial biofuel crops such as miscanthus, whose high yields have led them to be considered an eventual alternative to corn in producing ethanol, are now shown to have another beneficial characteristic–the ability to reduce the escape of nitrogen in the environment. In a 4-year University of Illinois study that compared miscanthus, switchgrass, and mixed prairie species to typical corn-corn-soybean rotations, each of the perennial crops were highly efficient at reducing nitrogen losses, with miscanthus having the greatest yield.

Black Silicon Increases Efficiency of Solar Cells

Scientists at Aalto University, Finland, have demonstrated results that show a huge improvement in the light absorption and the surface passivation on silicon nanostructures. This has been achieved by applying atomic layer coating. The results advance the development of devices that require high sensitivity light response such as high efficiency solar cells.

Nautilus Solar Commences Operation of 1,115kW Raymour Solar PV Project

Nautilus Solar Energy ("Nautilus Solar"), a leading independent solar power producer, has started commercial operation of its 1,115kW roof mounted, solar photovoltaic project located in Gibbstown, NJ. The project is on the rooftop of Raymour & Flanigan's ("Raymour") distribution center on Swedesboro Avenue. The power is being sold at a discount to the utility tariff rate to Raymour under a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement. SRECs are being sold to Atlantic City Electric.

GEOMAR Scientists to Study Effects of Ocean Acidification on Plankton Communities

From January to June 2013, more than 60 European scientists will conduct a worldwide unique long-term experiment on ocean acidification at the west coast of Sweden. To study how natural marine communities develop in response to acidifying waters, the scientists will deploy a large-scale mesocosm facility in the Gullmar Fjord. The field experiment, which takes place in the framework of the German project on ocean acidification BIOACID (Biological Impacts of Ocean ACIDification), is coordinated by GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel.

Latino Organizations Call for Strong Standards to Limit Carbon Pollution from Power Plants

Today, over 20 Latino leaders and organizations submitted a letter to the White House today asking President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency for strong standards to limit carbon pollution from existing power plants. The Latino population in the United States is particularly vulnerable to the effects of carbon pollution since fully one-half live in counties currently in violation of clean air standards.
