Novel Tool to Study Energy Demand and Impact of Carbon Dioxide Emissions

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has created an energy analysis tool to help individuals and educators experiment with future energy use scenarios. The interactive Buildings, Industry, Transportation, Electricity, and Transportation Scenarios (BITES) allows users to explore how changes in energy demand and supply can impact carbon dioxide emissions and the current U.S. energy trajectory.

USDA Awards $5.08M for Study on Oilseed Camelina as a Potential Commercial Biofuel Feedstock

It may not be a household name even among farm families, but the oilseed camelina is showing good potential as an environmentally-friendly commercial biofuel feedstock, particularly for biodiesel and jet fuel. To that end, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has just awarded $5.08 million to a team of researchers, led by Kansas State University Distinguished Professor in Grain Science and Industry, Xiuzhi "Susan" Sun, to study the crop's potential.

Solar Markets in MENA Countries to Reach Nearly 3.5GW by 2015

Solar energy demand in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is attracting the attention of the global solar market, as the industry begins to diversify existing demand from feed-in tariff markets with demand from markets that offer fundamental solar drivers such as insolation, grid prices and electricity needs. On the back of these fundamental drivers, GTM Research, in collaboration with the Emirates Solar Industry Association (ESIA), forecasts the annual solar market in MENA countries to reach nearly 3.5 gigawatts by 2015 and comprise close to 8 percent of total demand globally that year.

Best Western Employs HydroFlow Technology to Treat Cooling Tower Waste Water without Chemicals

The Best Western Palm Desert could no longer discharge the cooling tower waste water into the Coachella Valley Sewer System due to recently enacted ordnance, banning the discharge of cooling tower water to their sewer system. The ownership approached HydroFlow West to find a cost effective resolution which involved removing the discharge to the sewer and removal of the chemicals required to treat this water for bacteria.

Melink to Develop 2,154 kW Solar Array for Cedarville University

Cedarville University will soon receive clean, renewable energy from the sun. On December 31, 2012, the financing package was finalized, setting the stage for construction in early January 2013 for a 2,154 kilowatt solar array on the southwest edge of campus. Power is expected to begin flowing in April.
