Toshiba to Enter Solar Power Business and Work with Leading German Real Estate Company

Toshiba Corporation today announced that the company will enter the solar power business in Germany with a new on-site consumption model for apartment buildings. It will initiate the business in March next year after installing systems in apartment buildings in Villingen-Schwenningen and Ostfildern, in Baden-Wuerttemberg, operated by GAGFAH, Germany’s largest real-estate company.

Researchers to Uncover the Minute Workings of Photosynthetic Protein, Photosystem II

With support from the Photosynthetic Systems Division at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), researchers in the School of Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute are expanding a successful research program to uncover the minute workings of the photosynthetic protein, Photosystem II. The high-impact research, led by professor K.V. Lakshmi, seeks to adapt photosynthesis for artificial use as an abundant source of renewable energy.

UC Researchers Report Fishing Impacts Coral Reef Health

In the first global assessment of its kind, a science team led by researchers at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego has produced a landmark report on the impact of fishing on a group of fish known to protect the health of coral reefs. The report, published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B (Biological Sciences), offers key data for setting management and conservation targets to protect and preserve fragile coral reefs.

IDTechEx Forecasts Significant Increase in Electric Vehicles Market by 2023

The total global gross value market for electric vehicles will reach US$334 Billion within the decade, from a current value of US$69 Billion, forecast analysts IDTechEx. This will primarily consist of large or very heavy duty vehicles, neither of which is primarily bought on up-front price. These military, industrial and commercial vehicles are evenly split between on-road and off-road types, but with a multi-billion dollar marine sector coming up fast.

Government of Ontario Indicates Wind Energy to Significantly Contribute to Ontario’s Electricity Demand

The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) is pleased the Government of Ontario has today indicated that wind energy will make an important contribution to Ontario's limited, short-term needs for new electricity supply. As part of the Long-Term Energy Plan update announced today, the Ontario Government will request proposals for the supply of 600 megawatts of new, clean wind energy over the next two years.
