Metso will supply Oskarshamn Energi with a complete biomass-fired power plant for combined heat and power production in Oskarshamn in Sweden. The start-up of the plant is scheduled for winter 2015. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

UCSD Climate Researcher Honored with UN Champions of the Earth Award

Veerabhadran Ramanathan, a distinguished professor of climate and atmospheric sciences at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, whose landmark research showed that cutting emissions of black carbon and other short lived climate pollutants can significantly lessen the impacts of regional and global climate change, improve the health of millions of rural poor, and avoid crop losses, will receive tonight (Sept. 20) a 2013 Champions of the Earth award, the United Nations’s highest environmental accolade.

Conductive Porous Carbon Improves Ionic Conductivity in Electrodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Heraeus is launching Porocarb, a completely new product family of conductive porous carbon powders for electrochemical applications such as battery additives. A team of developers from the new product group led by Christian Neumann spent more than three years developing these novel carbon particles with pore-size distribution ranging from 10 and 1,000 nanometers and internal pore volumes up to 2.5 cubic centimeters per gram.
