The Coconut Island in Hawaii which became famous due to the popular television series of the 1960s, Gilligan’s Island, is set to be powered by solar energy. The University of Hawaii’s Institute of Marine Biology is located on this island also known as Moku o Lo’e.
Canadian Solar Solutions, the subsidiary of Canadian Solar, has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract in addition to an agreement to operate and maintain two solar energy farms of capacity 18.7 MW AC each for Penn Energy Renewables in Ontario, Canada.

Aluminum cans have retained their status as the most recycled containers among containers for beverages. The Aluminum Association, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) and the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) have announced that in 2011, the U.S. recycling rate for aluminum beverage containers increased to 65.1% from 58.1%, which translated to 61 billion cans.

Republic Services, a non-hazardous solid waste operator, has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Clean Energy Renewable Fuels, a supplier of natural gas fuel for transportation in North America, for recovering renewable biomethane from its landfill in Tennessee. Landfill gas is a natural byproduct of decomposition.

The solar power system is expected to generate a total nominal power of 15.2 MW and is located in Rothenburg, Saxony.
