Organic Photovoltaic Modules Achieve Record 5.5% Efficiency

Imec and Solvay have developed an organic photovoltaic module touted to have a world-record efficiency of 5.5%. The companies have collaborated to develop an inverted bulk heterojunction architecture, which they used along with Polyera’s ActivInk semiconductor to achieve the record certified efficiency.

Altairnano Signs Deal for Rapid Commercialization of Grid Energy Storage Systems in China

Study on Effects of Dumped Chemical Warfare Agents on the Marine Ecosystem

The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) is participating in a global research project to assess the effect of dumping chemical munitions into the Baltic Sea. It has been estimated that after the Second World War, around 50,000 t of chemical munitions were dumped into sites at the Bornholm, the Little Belt strait, the Gotland Deep, and approximately 117,000 t in the Skagerrak strait and probably at the Gdansk Deep.

Blue Star Gas, a propane distribution company, has entered into a partnership with Wine Country Balloons to raise awareness about propane as a fuel. They will be launching a hot air balloon, touted to be the largest in Sonoma County.

Michael Fish Completes BASE Jump to Raise Awareness on Climate Change

Michael Fish, a 68 year old British TV weatherman associated with BBC, completed a BASE jump in association with Rapanui Clothing to create awareness on climate change. Michael Fish trained with qualified urban BASE jumpers in order to successfully complete the freefall jump. A parachute was used to land.
