EDF Renewable Energy’s Shiloh IV Wind Project is expected to generate carbon-free electricity for the state of California by December 2012. A blade signing ceremony will mark the celebrations for the successful construction and development of this project by the company.

PSEG Solar Source announced that it has acquired a 15 MW DC solar project from Juwi Solar (JSI) in Milford, Delaware, and plans to begin construction work this month. Based on signed agreements, JSI will oversee, procure, engineer and also perform maintenance and operation services for this solar project.

LDK Solar announced that LDK photovoltaic (PV) modules have earned a “Class A” rating based on the potential-induced degradation (PID) tests conducted by the laboratories of PV Lab and TUV Rheinland. Since the company’s PV modules exhibited less than 1% reduction in overall performance under the standard test conditions, they were granted the “Class A” rating.

Imec and Solvay have developed an organic photovoltaic module touted to have a world-record efficiency of 5.5%. The companies have collaborated to develop an inverted bulk heterojunction architecture, which they used along with Polyera’s ActivInk semiconductor to achieve the record certified efficiency.
A study carried by the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in conjunction with the Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES) indicates that recycling was practiced by humans as early as 13,000 years ago.

Plastic nanoparticles in oceans seem to have a damaging effect on sea life. Called as ‘plastic soup,’ this occurs when plastic debris entering the sea decomposes. Plastic nanoparticles also enter from washed clothes and from cosmetics.
